Douglasville, Georgia – The Cultural Arts Council of Douglasville/Douglas County is pleased to present its third chamber concerts at the Cultural Arts Center on the second Saturday evening in March 2008. The Kinna Chamber Concerts series, named in memory of musician and artist Jeanne Kinna, will feature DuoATL on March 8th with the guitar and flute duo of Brian Luckett and Nicole Randall. The performance will begin at 7 p.m. and is followed by an informal reception in honor of the musicians. Tickets are $12 for the general public ($10 for CAC members). Seating is limited, so reservations are recommended (770.949.2787).
In March duoATL with classical guitarist Brian Luckett and flutist and composer Nicole Randall will explore the intriguing and ever-expanding repertory for flute and guitar. Founded in 2005, duoATL presents a dynamic pairing of instruments which have inspired a great diversity of composers. Luckett and Randall’s program in Douglasville will offer an exciting performance of 20th and 21st works by well-known and experimental composers including Argentinian Astor Piazolla, Brazilian Radames Gnattali, and Spaniards Antonio Ruiz-Pipo, Alejandro Yague and Joaquin Rodrigo.
A faculty member at Emory University and Agnes Scott College, Brian Luckett earned his bachelors degree from the University of Louisville’s School of Music (its first awarded for guitar performance), his masters from the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music, and his doctorate from the University of Minnesota. He has performed in solo and chamber music ensembles throughout the U.S., most recently at Emory’s Schwartz Center and at Agnes Scott College. Luckett has been featured in many programs on NPR and Minnesota Public Radio. His debut solo CD, Serenades of the Unicorn, features the music of Einojuhani Rautavaara and Nikita Koshkin. In addition to performing, Brian is an occasional composer and has had several original guitar works premiered in Cincinnati, Minneapolis and Atlanta. He has written for solo guitar as well as guitar and flute, guitar and violin and guitar ensembles. His Doctoral thesis, Ensemble Workbook: for Beginning to Intermediate Guitarists, contains 27 brief works for guitar trio and quartet.
With a bachelor’s degree in Music Composition from the University of Georgia, Atlanta-based composer and flautist Nicole Randall also performs with the Mercury Season, Capitol Opera and area jazz ensembles. Her compositions have been featured at Dartmouth College’s electronic music festival and “Live in Studio C.” While most of her compositions are written for the concert setting, she has set some films to music, winning “Best Original Score” in the 2003 Atlanta 48-Hour Film Project for the musical, “Storyboard in A Major.” Her works have been performed around the world by artists including the Alias Chamber Ensemble in Nashville and flautist James Strauss in Recife, Brazil.
The Cultural Arts Center is located at 8652 Campbellton Street in historic downtown Douglasville, Georgia, about 20 miles from Atlanta and just off I-20 (exit 36 – Chapel Hill).
